Queen Innuendo review

I beleive Innuendo is the best piece of work from the legendary rock band Queen.

This is the last album before Freddie Mercury passed away and in my opinion the songs in this album showed how much this artist really loved music, by continuing writing and singing till the very end.

It begins with the title track "Innuendo" which has a magnificent flamenco style solo in the middle which will make any guitar enthusiast shiver, followed by the rock interpretation of the solo by Brian May. "I'm Going Slightly Mad" is a song on the humoristic side, it is also a very catchy making it one of my favourite tracks on this album. "Don't Try So Hard" is a song with a very deep message, the climax of the song comes when Freddie says:

"One day you'll be a sergeant major
Oh you'll be so proud
Screaming out your bloody orders
Hey but not too loud
Polish all your shiny buttons
Dress as lamb instead of mutton
But you never had to try to stand out from the crowd"

. . .basically a call to take life with a pinch of salt.

"Ride the wild wind" is a very nice 80's style song, it never became a hit but its a very nice song indeed. The album continues with "These Are The Days Of Our Lives" where Freddie remembers his childhood when

"The sun was always shining
We just lived for fun"

"The Hitman" is one of the hardest rock songs Queen had ever produced. The album ends up with what in my opinion is the best Queen song ever, "The Show Must Go On". With a clear inspiration from Pachelbel's Canon, this song is basically Freddie's final message to Queen and the world. . .

Everything from the album cover, tracks to the music videos makes this album a must have for any Queen fan.

Joe Satriani - Crystal Planet review

I begin by saying that Joe Satriani was and still is one of my favourite guitar players. A multi instrument virtuoso who influenced many of the modern guitarists we see around!!!

The album opens with the track "Up in the Sky" a fast all round riff with the exceptional middle solo which make it a complete instrumental. Just after comes the rockish bluesy track "House Full of Bullets" full of legatos and and great chord changes. The title track "Crystal Planet" is very much in the same style of "Up in the Sky", catchy and with a wonderful solo. "Love Thing" is a relaxing ballad in which Satriani makes the guitar sing. . . "Trundrumbalind" is like a track from a sci-fi movie with loads of effect and fast solos. "Lights of Heaven" is yet another very catchy song and the preamble to the main solo is just great. . .the solo is Not Of This Earth!!!

In "Raspberry Jam Delta-V" we hear Satriani's first tries at creating electronic music which will become more evident in his later albums. "Ceremony" and "With Jupiter in Mind" are very rockish with plenty use of the whammy pedal. . . "Secret Prayer" is simply a masterpiece. . .the climax of this album. "A Train of Angels" was nominated for Best Rock Instrumental Performance Grammy in 1999. . .wonderful tune. In "A Piece of Liquid" we hear a completely different sound to the rest of the album. This track has one of Satriani's solos. Then "Psycho Monkey" has the name which describes it best, Satriani begins Jamming with heavenly notes!!
"Time" is another great song, bluesy and rocking at times with great beat and solos. "Z.Z. 's Song" is the closing track and the only reason I don't give this album a 10 out of 10. If you love the guitar Crystal Planet is surely a must have into your collection

Al Di Meola One Of These Nights review

In this live performance, Al Di Meola plays some of his well known songs from fis repertoire including Innamorata, Misterio, Azzurra, Orient blue, Rhapsody of fire, This way before, One night last june, Beyond the mirage, Egyptian danza and also arrangements of Astor Piazzola's Fugatta and the masterpiece Libertango. The skill of Al Di Meola and his band are out of this world. They are able to mix technique, passion, harmony and produce something so entertaining to watch. .this is certainly a classic

I cannot finish this review without showing my appreciation to this great rock band which in these unique performances show their real skill without the usual electronic effects. Their music mastery combined with the marvellous voice of Klaus Meine make them surely one of the finest rock bands ever!!!

Scorpions - Moment of Glory review

This concert is a fusion between rock, orchestra and a choir of children. It begins with an introduction to "Hurricane 2000" by the Berlin Philarmonic Orchestra, then when the curtain opens up, the unique sound of Scorpions guitar begins to Rock You Like A Hurricane. Then comes "Moment Of Glory", "You And I", "We Don't Own the World". After which comes a wonderful duet "Here In My Heart". The concert continues with "We'll Burn The Sky", "Big City Nights". "Deadly Sting Suite (Instrumental)" is made up of three songs, Crossfire - He's a woman she's a man - Dynamite. The concert ends up with classic Scorpions hits such as "Wind Of Change", "Still Loving You", "Moment Of Glory (Encore)"
